Our Story
Situated in the heart of St Huberts Rd in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Copperhead Wines stands as a testament to our deep-rooted passion for horticulture. With over 30 years of experience and a partnership spanning 40 years, Hans and Anna Orth have cultivated their expertise in the field since their early days post-schooling. Initially venturing into the world of horticulture with a wholesale plant nursery, the allure of grape growing and their shared love for wine led them to establish a vineyard as part of their business.
The early 1990s witnessed a surge in the demand for Australian wine, prompting the decision to plant grapevines on our property in the premium wine-producing region of the Yarra Valley. Since planting our first vines in 1996, we have remained dedicated to adapting to the evolving landscape of grape cultivation, constantly refining our techniques to meet the changing demands of the industry.
While the majority of our grapes are sold to larger wineries, our foray into wine production under the Copperhead Wines label in 2006 marked a significant milestone in our journey.
Despite facing challenges over the past three decades, we have persevered, learning valuable lessons and honing our skills to grow top-quality grapes for crafting high-quality wines. With the second generation now actively involved in the business, we look forward to exciting developments for the Copperhead Wines brand.
